Meet Patti

I’m Patti Salomon, the owner of Salt 360 Float Studio. A few years ago, I was in St. Louis living the busy life of a single mother, managing a small publishing company, rehabbing a home, working out to stay healthy—the list goes on and on. The day-to-day stress began to take its toll on me. My daughter, who was attending college in Portland, Oregon, at the time, had visited a float center there and felt floating really helped her relax and let go of worries about grades, relationships, a future career, and more. Thinking I might enjoy floating too, she sent me a gift certificate for visits to a St. Louis float center.

Visit #1  The day of my first float arrived. After completing the simple pre-float preparation, I stepped into the tank and looked forward to relaxation. I lay back, closed my eyes, and waited—and waited and waited—for a sense of serenity to set in. An hour later my session ended and, frankly, I wasn’t sold. Floating was certainly effortless and comfortable, but I spent the majority of the hour concerned about the fact that I wasn’t supposed to be thinking. Mission NOT accomplished.

Visit #2  My daughter assured me my next float would be better, and she was right! When I arrived at the center the second time, I knew just what to expect. When I lay back to begin my float, I anticipated the darkness, silence, and weightlessness. I also freed my mind by deciding if I was going to spend an hour thinking about not thinking, so be it. Before I knew it, my body had completely relaxed and my mind had grown quiet. When the session ended, I felt truly refreshed—physically and mentally. I was hooked! I immediately signed up to float on the last Sunday of each month. I found these visits helped me peacefully conclude the month ending and look forward to the month ahead.

Sometimes change brings opportunity, and my life definitely began to change. My ties to St. Louis weakened when in a short timespan my daughter decided to stay in Portland after graduation and the owner of the company I managed chose to sell it. As I considered my location and career options, I reflected upon my frequent visits to Durango, Colorado, to visit my mother. I was struck by how welcoming, healthy and mindful the people there were, and soon I decided to make it my home. Opening a float center there seemed like a natural fit for me and a way to share the benefits of floating with a community I couldn’t wait to be part of. In 2018 Salt 360 was born.

No expense was spared in the design of our first-rate studio. Salt 360 proudly offers clients the best in equipment, sanitation, and service. Our extra large, top-of-the-line tanks have a more efficient filtration system than any others on the market. Our trained staff follows carefully designed procedures to ensure that clients’ experience is both enjoyable and hygienic. I’m proud to say our service is second to none. My past managerial experience had taught me the importance of customer service and strong, one-on-one client relationships. (In fact, I’m still in touch with many of those customers, now friends.) Salt 360’s mission is to provide clients with an experience beyond their highest expectations.

Although my decision to move to Durango and open Salt 360 was good, my timing was definitely not. The 416 Fire, one of the largest wildfires in Colorado history, began in 2018 and took a huge toll on tourism and commerce in Durango and nearby towns. The one silver lining for my budding business was the privilege of serving many of the first responders who bravely traveled to the area to fight the devastating fire. And then there was a pandemic.

Despite this rocky start, Salt 360’s membership has grown. We’re proud to serve our Durango neighbors and honored that so many travelers make floating part of their vacation experience. I can’t express how much I appreciate everyone’s support.
